Say What?

March 4, 2014 by Judy

Hello. My name is Judy and I’m a grammar nerd.

Hello. My name is Judy and I’m a grammar nerd.

A condition from which I have no desire to recover.51ihFNDduWL._SY344_PJlook-inside-v2,TopRight,1,0_SH20_BO1,204,203,200_

Fact is, the world needs a few more of us, because in case you haven’t noticed there’s a definite void in proper grammar and usage these days. Blame texting and social media. Blame the schools. But don’t blame me – or Susanne Lakin.

Say What: The Fiction Writer’s Handy Guide to Grammar, Punctuation, and Word Usage is her contribution to snuffing out poor writing. Say What is a compilation of short, pithy, often humorous postings from her Live Write Thrive blog.

Lakin covers the most frequent grammar errors including punctuation—the nemesis of many a would-be writer, as well as common spelling and usage errors. Dubbed the “Fiction Writer’s” guide, Lakin’s book is a valuable guide for anyone who wants to see their writing in print—fiction or nonfiction. Fiction writers get a bonus because Lakin includes a fiction tip with every entry.

With a comprehensive index and clearly-marked sections, Say What is a user friendly addition to a writer’s resource collection. And I’m proud to say I had a small part in this publication, writing some 30 posts

Just consider it my contribution to improving the state of writing.
